This is a wonderful project that my poetry writing group (Pernessy Poets in Lausanne) is following and posting on our (private) Facebook page. It’s exciting seeing what the group comes up with… I am a fairly new member to the group, which started as an offshoot from the Geneva Writer’s Group which I joined at the tail end of 2016 while still living in Bienne.
NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.
Their website is owned and operated by Maureen Thorson, a poet living in Washington, DC, who started writing a poem a day for the month of April back in 2003, posting the poems on her blog. When other people started writing poems for April, and posting them on their own blogs, Maureen linked to them. After a few years, so many people were doing NaPoWriMo that Maureen decided to launch an independent website for the project. Maureen just likes poems and wants to encourage people to write them.
