Day 1 – 1st April

A Perennial Sowing

This morning trek is always more pleasant

when you carry a friend

to explore some ideas

or to lift up that compost

at the end of the aisle, and

which are the best sprouts

and “we must try these seeds”

in clay or plastic, small or big pots

we may have doubts on the best way

to plant them on the balcony garden

but that is what’s kept me sane

all this time, the sowing of karma

burying possibility seeds of ardent endeavour

and dreams of reaping so much better

yes, I am a hope farmer, a planter of dreams

with each container holding different fruit

each a different letter to the sky

that with water and care, snipping and pruning

the greens beautifully push through

then trade pollen with bees, so that one day…

one evening we will be sipping Bordeaux

and you’ll stay, enjoy the moment here

I have a multi-coloured harvest to show you.

Saffron – April 2020

Today… I’d like to challenge you to write a self-portrait poem in which you make a specific action a metaphor for your life – one that typically isn’t done all that often, or only in specific circumstances. For example, bowling, or shopping for socks, or shoveling snow, or teaching a child to tie its shoes.
