Day4: Two Climatic for Some

Two Climatic for Some

my mother is calm now

together, we stopped and I parked on the main

and in the dark milky twilight, our steps

crunched on the stone driveway, then she went back alone

to move the car. We meet at the front door

our first poodle at our heels, happy Yéyé

my broker does not come

the vineyard home is for sale – a deal

as it seems it was haunted, so no one wants it

there are a few broken windows and some obvious repairs

and dust, and dust, and dust everywhere

before you know, she was agitated and worried

this world frustrating her. I feel she read too many apocalyptic

this-is-the-end-of-the-world conspiracies, but that’s me

so many levels, and so many stairs

which is the ground floor? There is a wrap-around veranda

with a misty view of the tropical hills, we breathe it in

the two climates inhabit each side, so this house

is the best of both worlds – Mom loves it

finally, and Yéyé follows us with quick clicking nails

on the dirty parquet

yesterday would have been her birthday

the same date as Bob Marley – and our Yéyé

was run over the year my mom fell ill

I am so glad that we still

get together to visit the house

of our dreams

Saffron – April 2020

Prompt:

Write a poem based on an image from a dream. We don’t always remember our dreams, but images or ideas from them often stick with us for a very long time.
